Names have power. And choosing a name is an important act in many different traditions and superstitions. You will use your name for the rest of your life, and it will help you identify yourself and present yourself to others. Whenever something has to do with self-representation, it may carry a strong emotional charge. Childhood nicknames are common for almost everyone. Were you pleased or upset by them? When and by whom were you named? In this class, we review our lives through names and find comfort and resources in them.In this class, we will explore the meaning of names in our lives. We will examine how names can be used as tools to represent ourselves to others and as tools to represent ourselves internally. Through discussion about our own experiences with names and the experiences of those around us, we will discover what the power of names means for each of us individually and collectively.
